Chest congestion is a very uncomfortable state that can lead to several hazardous health issues like bronchitis, pneumonia etc if not cured properly. These food items may include citrus food, spicy foods, garlic, ginger, pineapple etc.
  • Take Tea: You should consume hot drinks like tea that are meant to help dissolve the mucus i.e. the main cause of chest congestion. It would be more effective if you brew a cup of peppermint, ginger, chamomile, rosemary after every two hours to get relief. Adding a bit of honey will make its taste worth taking.
  • Gargling: Gargling is the best way to help you break apart the mucus in your airways. Take half glass of warm water with half tablespoon of salt and pinch of turmeric. Stir the mixture and gargle it for 1-2 minutes. Repeat it 3 to 4 times a day. You’ll feel better.
  • Steaming: Steaming is another way to help you feel better as it will break up and dissolve mucus deep in your lungs and throat. For that, you may take super hot shower, or take steam from a bowl filled with boiled water. Breath deep in this steam to feel good and add some drops of peppermint that will aid you in breaking up mucus.
  • Hydration: Drink plenty of water to help you clear out chest congestion.
  • Elevating the Patient’s Head: Follow this tip while sleeping. Make sure to keep your head elevated that will make the mucus drain rather than a build-up in each sleep.
